CME Introducing Daily Expirations for BTC and ETH Futures

Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) has announced that it will introduce daily expirations for Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) futures options contracts, as per a press release on Monday.

Starting from May 22, Bitcoin and Ether futures options contracts will experience daily expirations from Monday to Friday. Additionally, contracts based on micro-sized Bitcoin and Ether futures will now have expirations on Tuesdays and Thursdays, adding to the existing expirations on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This expansion complements the monthly and quarterly expirations currently available.

Giovanni Vicioso, Global Head of Cryptocurrency Products at CME Group, stated in the release, “As the digital asset sector experiences heightened market volatility, clients continue to seek reliable and efficient cryptocurrency risk-management products from a trusted and regulated venue like CME Group.”

CME reported a record daily average volume of over $3 billion for its Bitcoin and Ether futures and options in the first quarter. The company initially launched its micro Bitcoin futures in May last year in response to the growing demand for smaller-sized contracts.
