JPMorgan Sparks Controversy After Dropping Strike CEO, Prompting Lummis’ Response

JPMorgan is facing backlash after it suddenly ended its banking relationship with Jack Mallers, the CEO of the Bitcoin app Strike.

The bank provided no clear reason for the decision, sparking anger in the crypto community. U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis quickly responded, criticizing JPMorgan and calling for an end to what she sees as unfair treatment of crypto companies.

Mallers was angry because the bank did not explain why, but only stated that it had found concerning activity during a routine check. He noted that his father had been a client at the bank for over 30 years, yet the bank gave no explanation for closing his account.

Lummis reacted to JPMorgan’s move, saying that these policies make people trust banks less and could push the crypto industry to move to other countries. She advised JPMorgan to reconsider its actions because more traditional financial institutions are interested in digital assets.

Crypto Leaders Slam JPMorgan as Operation Chokepoint 2.0 Concerns Grow

In addition to Lummis, JPMorgan’s actions have faced criticism from Bitcoin advocates such as Grant Cardone and Max Keiser, who highlighted the bank’s connection to Strategy.Inc., Michael Saylor’s company, which owns large amounts of Bitcoin.

Operation Chokepoint is a U.S. government program that was initially started in 2013 by the U.S. Department of Justice with the aim of making it harder for cryptocurrency companies to access banking services by pressuring banks to stop working with them.

Even though President Donald Trump issued an executive order to banks to stop blocking crypto companies, critics say that the effects of the program still cause problems for the cryptocurrency industry.

The effects can be reflected in JPMorgan’s approach to crypto. Despite creating its own stablecoin, JPM Coin, and exploring its blockchain technology, it remains cautious about investing in cryptocurrency as a new asset.
