Solana Begins Shipping Its Seeker Smartphone Worldwide, Making Web3 More Accessible
Solana Mobile has begun shipping the first 150,000 units of its second-generation of smartphones, Seeker, to over 50 countries across the globe. The Seeker smartphone was with a built-in wallet, digital identity, and access to over 100 dApps, giving everyone quick access to Web3.
Solana Begins Shipping Seeker Smartphones
On Monday, August 4, Solana Mobile announced that it had launched shipping for the Solana Seeker smartphone. The Seeker smartphone saw over 150,000 pre-orders in April. This is more than 7x as many orders as the first generation of Solana smartphones, Saga, which received only 20,000 orders.
The Seeker smartphone sells at two prices, which are $450 and 500, and is expected to bring Solana Mobile, which is a subsidiary of blockchain technology firm Solana Labs, at least $67.5 million in profit. There are already people who have confirmed their shipping details, including the developer on X, Engr Gudbee.
The smartphone Seeker represents a massive technological jump from Saga. Solana Mobile is aiming to appeal to both developers and crypto enthusiasts with a better on-chain experience in delivering its users a frictionless experience on Web3 with the new device.
Seeker Brings Exciting New Updates
This new device has an encrypted mobile wallet, a decentralized app store, and an advanced chipset that enhances overall performance. This phone has a seed vault built in, used to add additional protection to your personal keys and secret phrases against apps and hackers. This implies that users can use apps without risking sensitive information.
There are also exciting features on Seeker for developers. The Seeker presents an alternative application store that is not as expensive as Apple and Google. By contrast, the Seeker offers a launching point for crypto-friendly apps that would otherwise be prohibited or restricted on many other platforms.
This would allow users to get access to NFT games, decentralized financial tools (DeFi), and other new blockchain applications more easily. In traditional app stores, many of these kinds of apps are usually censored or concealed.
A key appeal of the first Saga smartphone, access to exclusive airdrops, will also be present on the Seeker. With the rapidly expanding Solana DeFi and memecoin ecosystems, users of these smartphones will be able to get more airdrops.
The New Foundation of the Seeker Smartphone
The Seeker was built with a new architecture known as TEEPIN, a three-tier infrastructure capable of proving both hardware and applications using cryptographic proofs. The system eliminates the need for a central authority to trust, which enables distributed applications to be deployed without intermediaries or unnecessary rent.
According to Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana Labs, TEEPIN will change mobile platforms by offering decentralized governance on the bottom level. The phone is connected to a decentralized network that utilizes the SKR token, enabling individuals to be involved in the decision-making process for their mobile experience.
The idea behind this model is to substitute centralization with a system in which all the users, developers, and manufacturers contribute to the platform’s direction. Emmett Hollyer, Gen. Mgr. of Solana Mobile, stated that Developer incentives and user rewards must be balanced to create a healthy ecosystem.
In Conclusion
Unlike most other crypto phones, which simply run crypto apps on top of their Android-based platforms, Solana has designed Seeker to be Web3-native, right down to the hardware. The Seeker smartphone could also become a one-stop shop for cryptocurrency users because it is Web3-native and boasts both hardware-level security and a decentralized app infrastructure.
