HYPE Rally Meets $1.2B Supply Release for Early Investors
HYPE’s $1.2 billion token unlock arrives Aug. 29 as early investors receive nearly half of the new supply after a record rally.
HYPE touched an all-time high of $83.27 on Sunday before slipping back to roughly $77.50, pushing Hyperliquid’s market capitalization to near $19.5 billion just days ahead of a scheduled unlock that will release about $1.2 billion in new supply on Aug. 29. The token was trading around $78.00, above the records it set in May and June but below the weekend peak.
The $1.2 billion unlock and who receives it
The Aug. 29 release will free 14.18 million HYPE, equal to 1.4% of total supply and 2.7% of the token’s market value. Early investors will receive the largest share, 46.6%, while 46.3% is allocated to community programs and 7% to the Hyper Foundation. At current prices, the insider allocation is worth roughly $560 million.

Hyperliquid has followed a monthly unlock schedule since its November 2024 launch, and recent price reactions have been mixed. HYPE fell 7% after the July release, gained 1% following June’s unlock, and dropped 14.1% after the May event. A second unlock of the same size is scheduled for Sept. 29.
HYPE’s price context into the unlock
HYPE has moved beyond the $67 record set in late May and the $76 level reached in June. Its pullback from $83.27 to around $77.50 left the token near the June record after the weekend high.
Token unlocks increase the number of tokens that can be sold and can pressure the market if recipients cash out. The differing moves after Hyperliquid’s three prior monthly releases provide no uniform indication of how the market will respond to the August event.
Developments around Hyperliquid
Coinbase added up to 50x perpetual futures to its Base app through Hyperliquid infrastructure this month, extending the protocol’s reach into a larger consumer trading platform. Separately, President Donald Trump said the Commodity Futures Trading Commission is working to bring Hyperliquid into the United States in a compliant and legal manner. The exchange remains geofenced and unavailable to U.S. users.

The Aug. 29 release comes as Hyperliquid has drawn attention beyond its token price. Decrypt’s reporting on the event described the protocol’s expansion into a larger consumer trading platform and regulatory attention around its potential U.S. availability.
What traders are watching
The early-investor allocation accounts for nearly half of the release, making recipient behavior a central consideration for the unlock. The roughly $560 million insider-facing portion will enter a market in which HYPE is already below its record high, while the September release will bring another unlock of the same size.
June’s release was followed by a 1% gain, while the May and July events were followed by declines. Those results underline that an unlock’s effect can vary, even when the release schedule remains fixed.
