Coinbase To Launch Prediction Markets And Tokenized Stock Trading Next Week

US crypto exchange Coinbase will launch tokenized stock trading and blockchain-based prediction markets next week as it enters two of crypto’s hottest sectors.

The exchange will reveal the new features during a livestream event on Dec. 17, Bloomberg reported, citing a person familiar with the matter.

The launch comes as interest in tokenized stocks and crypto prediction markets is surging, with blockchain-linked equities reaching $1.45 billion in monthly transfer volume, according to rwa.xyz, and the broader prediction market now valued at over $10 billion.

“Prediction markets and tokenized equities are opening new on-chain financial opportunities for retail and institutional users alike,” Coinbase said in a statement highlighting the launch.

The company also leaked screenshots on social media, offering a first look at the early designs for both features.

While Coinbase has not confirmed details, it told users to “tune in” to the Dec. 17 livestream to see what’s coming.

Prediction Markets See Rapid Growth

Prediction markets are surging, prompting more heavyweight players to enter the space.

This week, Gemini received CFTC approval to run a regulated prediction market. Robinhood Markets partnered with Kalshi earlier this year and, in its latest earnings call, said that prediction markets were among its fastest-growing businesses this year. 

Crypto.com has also partnered with Trump Media & Technology Group to help launch new prediction market services.

These developments are happening partly because the Trump administration has created a more supportive regulatory environment for such products.

Polymarket and Kalshi dominate the market currently and both have recorded record activity in the past two months. Kalshi dominates in the US but will soon face intensified competition from Polymarket after the CFTC cleared it to re-enter the US market.
