USDC branding to appear across Chelsea teams in 2026/27

USDC branding will feature on Chelsea’s men’s, women’s and academy shirts, despite FCA scrutiny of crypto sponsorships in football.

Chelsea Football Club has named Circle, issuer of the USDC stablecoin, as its front-of-shirt sponsor for the 2026/27 season. The agreement was announced about three months after the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority warned Premier League clubs about sponsorship arrangements involving unauthorised financial firms, including crypto businesses.

Chelsea names Circle and USDC as front-of-shirt partner

Circle said its name and the USDC brand will appear on Chelsea FC player jerseys during the 2026/2027 campaign. Chelsea described Circle as a Principal Partner and its official front-of-shirt partner beginning with the season.

The Circle and USDC brands will appear on the front of the club’s men’s, women’s and academy shirts. The arrangement gives the stablecoin issuer branding across multiple Chelsea teams rather than limiting the sponsorship to one side.

Chelsea said the partnership brings USDC to a major global sports platform. Circle characterizes USDC as a digital dollar designed to enable global money movement with internet-speed and round-the-clock availability.

The FCA warning behind the deal

The partnership follows the FCA’s warning letters to Premier League clubs, which may have included Chelsea. The regulator said the letters concerned unauthorised companies, including crypto businesses, that used sponsorship deals to target football fans in ways that could potentially breach UK financial services laws.

Lucy Castledine, the FCA’s director of consumer investments, said the regulator was concerned about clubs allowing unauthorised financial firms to use supporters’ trust in club brands to promote products to large audiences.

Circle UK Trading Limited, the company’s UK arm, has been listed as authorised by the FCA to provide certain financial services to UK residents since 2018. Stablecoins such as USDC are legal to use in the UK, while lawmakers continue to work on a comprehensive framework for digital assets.

Circle has also said that USDC is issued by certain regulated affiliates but is not issued or regulated under UK law. The FCA authorisation held by Circle’s UK entity and the stated UK regulatory position of USDC are separate matters.

Cointelegraph reported that it contacted both Circle and the FCA for comment on the sponsorship and had not received an immediate response.

What the partnership puts on Chelsea shirts

Circle and USDC branding is scheduled to appear for the first time when Chelsea’s men’s team hosts Brighton & Hove Albion in its first Premier League home match of the season. Chelsea’s women’s and academy sides will also carry the branding during the 2026/27 campaign.

Reuters reported that Chelsea had not had a front-of-shirt sponsor for a full season for three years. Infinite Athlete joined in September of the 2023-24 campaign on a one-season deal, while DAMAC Properties was signed at the end of the 2024-25 campaign. Last season, artificial intelligence firm IFS was announced as front-of-shirt sponsor in February through the end of the campaign.

Against that recent run of later sponsorship announcements, Circle’s agreement is in place at the start of the 2026/27 season. The sponsorship also arrives while UK policymakers continue developing a broader digital-asset framework and the FCA’s warning letters to football clubs remain part of the regulatory backdrop.

The available information establishes that Circle and USDC will appear across Chelsea’s men’s, women’s and academy shirts, while Circle UK Trading Limited holds FCA authorisation for certain financial services. It also establishes that Circle has said USDC is not issued or regulated under UK law.
