Robinhood Markets is entering the fast-growing Indonesia market to offer US equities and crypto trading to 17 million local crypto investors and 19 million capital market investors.

In a Dec. 7 announcement, Robinhood said that it had inked a deal to acquire local brokerage Buana Capital Sekuritas and licensed crypto trader Pedagang Aset Kripto.

”Indonesia is a compelling market for equities and crypto trading,” said Patrick Chan, Head of Asia at Robinhood. ”Indonesia represents a fast-growing market for trading, making it an exciting place to further Robinhood’s mission to democratize finance for all.”

The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. It is expected to be closed in the first half of 2026, pending regulatory approvals.

The majority shareholder of the Indonesian platforms, Pieter Tanuri, will stay on as a strategic advisor.

Acquiring an existing brokerage eases Robinhood’s entry into the new market by providing regulatory compliance and an established presence.

Robinhood Eyes Crypto Trading, US Equities Over Time

Following the acquisition of Buana Capital, Robinhood will initially serve brokerage customers with Indonesian financial products.

Over time, it hopes to also offer Robinhood brokerage and crypto trading products, and connect Indonesian customers to US equities, cryptocurrencies, and more ”at scale.”

Indonesia is a key growth market for digital trading, with Chainalysis ranking the country first in Southeast Asia and seventh globally in crypto adoption, ahead of nations including Ukraine, the Philippines and the Russian Federation,

Those rankings follow a tripling of crypto asset trading volumes in Indonesia over the previous year, which exceeded 650 trillion Indonesian rupiah ($39.7 billion).

Robinhood Moves Into Prediction Markets

Among the services that Robinhood may soon introduce to the Indonesian market is prediction markets.

In Q1 this year, Robinhood debuted its prediction markets “hub” that gives users the ability to bet on the outcomes of a variety of real-world events.

The company said in its latest earnings call that prediction markets is one of the company’s fastest-growing businesses, with more than 9 billion prediction market contracts having traded on the platform since its March debut.

Crypto Companies Went On An Acquisition Spree In 2025

Robinhood’s recent announcement adds to what has been an acquisition spree for crypto companies in 2025. According to data from Markets.com, there have been a record 133 crypto-related deals this year.

Citing data from Pitchbook, Markets.com said that the total dollar amount of business deals exceeded the combined total of the previous four years as well, with this year’s deals reaching $8.6 billion as of November.

Leading the merger and acquisition charge is US crypto exchange Coinbase, which completed six deals this year alone. Among these deals is the $2.9 billion purchase of Deribit, which is one of the largest crypto derivatives marketplaces.

Other companies such as Kraken and Ripple also made a series of large acquisitions this year.

Ripple acquired four companies in 2025, including Hidden Road, GTreasury, Rail, and Palisade. Kraken, meanwhile, has reported five acquisitions in 2025, including the purchase of NinjaTrader, Breakout, and others.

Markets.com attributed the acquisition spree to improving global regulations for the digital asset space, including the pro-crypto stance adopted in the US under President Donald Trump.
