Three BlackRock Strategies Arrive as Onchain Portfolio Tokens

Ondo Intelligent Portfolios puts three BlackRock-built strategies into onchain tokens for eligible non-U.S. investors in permitted jurisdictions.

Ondo Finance has launched Ondo Intelligent Portfolios, a new product line that packages professionally built investment strategies into single tokens that can be bought, held and transferred onchain. The first three portfolios were constructed by BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, marking what the company describes as the first time eligible onchain investors can access BlackRock-designed portfolio strategies through a single digital token.

Ondo Intelligent Portfolios Put Three BlackRock Strategies Onchain

A portfolio, in traditional finance, is a mix of assets – stocks, bonds, commodities – bundled together to balance risk and return. Building one has typically required a brokerage account, a financial adviser or access to a fund structure. Ondo’s product takes that same concept and delivers it as a single token on a blockchain, meaning it can move between wallets, trade on exchanges and plug into decentralized finance applications the same way any cryptocurrency can.

The initial lineup includes three tokens, each targeting a different risk profile. BLKHIon (Ondo High Income) is designed for investors seeking steady income, BLKDIGon (Ondo Diversified Growth) targets a balance between growth and stability, and BLKGRWon (Ondo High Growth) is aimed at investors willing to take on more risk for higher potential returns.

All three are currently available to eligible non-U.S. investors in permitted jurisdictions. Because the portfolios live on a blockchain, they carry features that traditional fund structures generally don’t offer: rebalancing can be done programmatically rather than manually, and holdings are fully transparent and verifiable onchain. Each portfolio is also a single transferable token, which means it can be integrated into lending protocols, used as collateral, or composed with other onchain financial products – capabilities Ondo has already built out across its broader lineup of tokenized stocks that support in-kind minting and redemption.

Lisa O’Connor Describes the Digital-Infrastructure Opportunity

Lisa O’Connor, who leads BlackRock’s Model Portfolio Solutions team, said tokenization opens new ways for portfolio strategies to reach investors through digital infrastructure. She characterized the launch as an example of how established portfolio construction approaches can be delivered through new channels and technologies.

That framing positions the launch less as a novelty product and more as an extension of a distribution model BlackRock already runs through traditional wealth channels – now expressed as a transferable token rather than a fund share.

From Tokenized Securities to Portfolio-Level Products

The launch builds on Ondo’s broader push into tokenized financial products. The company currently holds over $3.5 billion in total value locked and lists more than 440 tokenized securities through Ondo Stocks. It recently became the first tokenization company to join DTCC’s Fund/SERV platform, which processes over 85% of U.S. mutual fund activity – a plumbing detail that matters more than it sounds, since it ties Ondo’s onchain products into the same settlement rails that move the bulk of America’s fund industry.

That infrastructure buildout sits alongside a wider industry shift toward moving fund-like exposure onchain, a trend that has drawn in BlackRock’s own tokenized money-market efforts and pushed competitors to respond to BlackRock moving more funds onchain. Ondo Intelligent Portfolios extends that pattern one step further – from wrapping a single fund or share class to wrapping an entire allocation strategy in one token. It’s a distinction that matters for anyone tracking how market infrastructure around tokenized securities is maturing beyond individual asset wrappers toward packaged, multi-asset products.

Coverage from CryptoTimes noted that the tokens are designed to provide economic exposure to their underlying baskets rather than ownership of any individual asset within them – a structural point that separates a portfolio token from simply holding the underlying securities directly.

Eligibility and Structure of the Onchain Portfolios

Access is restricted at launch. All three tokens are available only to eligible non-U.S. investors in permitted jurisdictions, and the announcement gives no indication of a near-term path to U.S. availability. That’s a familiar pattern in tokenized real-world assets, where jurisdictional gating tends to lag well behind the technology itself.

Investors weighing the product should treat it as an early entry in a new category rather than a mature, battle-tested instrument. Programmatic rebalancing and onchain transparency are genuine structural upgrades over a traditional fund wrapper, but they’re also unproven at scale – this is the first time a product like this has existed, which means there’s no long track record to lean on. The upside case is straightforward: professionally constructed allocation strategies, previously gated behind brokerage accounts and advisers, now composable inside DeFi. The risk case is equally straightforward: new product, restricted jurisdiction, and a reliance on Ondo’s execution of rebalancing mechanics that the announcement itself doesn’t fully detail.

Whether this becomes a template other asset managers replicate, or a niche product confined to eligible non-U.S. wallets, will depend on how the next few portfolios in the lineup are received and whether volume actually shows up onchain rather than just in the press cycle.
