Uniswap is set to integrate with Polygon zkEVM to leverage the growing adoption of the EVM-compatible, zero-knowledge roll-up solution.
Uniswap’s proposal to launch on Polygon zkEVM has gained massive support with 191 UNI token holders unanimously voting in favor. The required 40 million vote threshold has been surpassed, with over 42.4 million votes in favor.
- All 191 Ethereum addresses voted in favor of the proposal.
- Gauntlet and ConsenSys led the voting with over 7 million votes each.
- The voting period will continue until April 14, 9:05 pm UTC, but the proposal is already set to pass.
The Value of Integrating with Polygon’s zkEVM
Polygon business development lead Jack Melnick, the proposal’s author, argues that now is the “right moment” for Uniswap v3 integration with Polygon zkEVM because it is EVM equivalent, meaning no recompilation of EVM smart contracts is necessary.
The integration will also provide validation and fast finality for off-chain transactions.
“There’s significant value in Uniswap being available on an EVM compatible ZK rollup. Deploying early on zkEVM helps solidify Uniswap’s place as the number one DEX and a thought leader,” Melnick said.
“A successful zkEVM deployment will, in an organic and sustained manner, grow Uniswap’s Total Addressable Market across TVL, unique interacting wallets, volumes, and integration with partner dApps.
“As demand for zk-blockchains and proximity to Ethereum rises, users and builders will increasingly look to zkEVM solutions to build and trade,” he added.
Minimal Risks and Enhanced Security
Melnick is confident that the integration will pose minimal risks compared to other blockchains. Polygon zkEVM uses zero-knowledge proofs to inherit Ethereum’s security. The Polygon Bridge has also been disintermediated, and data will be sourced from reputable oracle providers, further strengthening security at the protocol level.
Polygon’s zkEVM had its official mainnet launch on March 27. Uniswap v3 also recently integrated with BNB Chain, the smart contract blockchain built by Binance.
