Binance’s CZ unfollows Elon Musk on Twitter

Binance CEO Changpeng ‘CZ’ Zhao has unfollowed Elon Musk on Twitter, according to reports.

A tweet from Big Crypto Alert posted on Saturday 13 May revealed that the Binance co-founder is no longer a follower of the Tesla and SpaceX boss.

It has not been confirmed why CZ is no longer following Musk. However, reports suggest that Binance’s $500million Twitter investment from last year remains in place.

In response to a thread on Breaking Whale, some Twitter users have given their theories on why CZ has removed Musk.

One tweet reads: “Probably because most of @elonmusk tweets are just stale takes on the same set of topics (woke culture bad, censorship bad). Meanwhile he is censoring the Turkish opposition party right before an election and hired a WEF chairwoman as CEO. He used to be more based/entertaining.”

Another mused: “That’s 1st good news that I’ve heard all week. CZ recognizes Elon just signed away his platform to WEF, who are starkly opposed to decentralized finance unless they control it with CBDCs. CZ is actually for the people, Elon is trying to psyop the people as controlled opposition.”

However, one tweet offers a more simpler explanation: “Because he is not CEO anymore, he’ll be following @lindayacc.” Linda Yaccarino happens to be the new boss of Twitter.

Binance and Twitter

Last October, Binance invested $500m in Twitter, supplementing Musk’s $44bn takeover of the social media giant.

In a statement at the time, CZ had said: “We’re excited to be able to help Elon realize a new vision for Twitter. We aim to play a role in bringing social media and web3 together in order to broaden the use and adoption of crypto and blockchain technology.”

At the time of writing on 15 May, Binance’s BNB coin was trading at $315.46, up 0.94% in the last 24 hours.
